Contractor claims robberies contributed to the incident

After a recent ceiling collapse at Domingo Lacson National High School in Bacolod City’s Barangay Banago, the local Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced they will be conducting an investigation into the incident.
School Principal Josette Terora filed a report last Monday after noticing cracks along the ceiling of the third floor classroom. The following day, she was later informed the ceiling had collapsed.
Bacolod City District Engineering Office head, Engr. Abraham Villareal, said the construction was a DPWH project funded by the Department of Education. He said they are currently looking into claims by contracting company Hummingbird Construction regarding alleged robberies that may have contributed to the collapse as assailants often entered through the ceiling.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City lone district Rep. Greg Gasataya called the situation “unfortunate,” noting, “It was good there was no class [and] no students [inside] during that time.”/DGB, WDJ
