Villareal: If necessary, we will resort to ‘drastic measures’
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bacolod City yesterday said they will be seeking assistance from the city government to remove 15 illegal structures along a stretch of the Bacolod Economic Highway project in the city’s Barangay Sum-ag.
“We will seek the help of the city government to tandem with our maintenance group,” said Bacolod City District Engineering Office head, Engr. Abraham Villareal. “In case these people refuse to vacate what they have occupied on the newly-acquired property of the national government, we will resort to some drastic measures.”
He said owners of the said properties will initially be sent a letter to notify them of the situation.
Villareal said the barangay should be on guard regarding the proliferation of illegal structures.
Nine Bacolod City barangays will be affected by the 21-kilometer highway, which will connect to the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road.
The DPWH project is valued at P4.8 billion./DGB, WDJ
