Cignal HD-Ateneo Blue Eagles secured a 2019 PBA D-League semifinal berth after their 67-60 win over Cha Dao Tea Place-FEU Tamaraws earlier this week at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Angelo Kouame led the win with a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds; while Ilonggo forward Ferdinand ‘Thirdy’ Ravena III finished with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, and a steal.
Down by as much as 11 points in the second quarter, Cignal-Ateneo went on a 21-7 scoring run behind Kouame, Ravena, and Jolo Mendoza to seize a 39-38 advantage.
Cha Dao Tea Place-FEU eventually caught up and came to within a point but Mendoza led a 7-0 run that gave Cignal-Ateneo a 64-56 lead.
“Our mentality was to take it possession by possession,” said Cignal-Ateneo lead assistant coach Sandy Arespacochaga.
Meanwhile, the Valencia City Bukidnon-San Sebastian Stags also qualified for the semifinals after their 91-87 overtime victory over the Che’Lu Bar and Grill Revellers./ASC, WDJ
