At least two people were killed, while seven others were seriously injured, after a delivery truck plunged into a creek along Sitio Plasanon yesterday morning in Barangay Salong, Kabankalan City.
Police identified the fatalities as Jenalie Alfonso, the reported owner of the truck; and Antonio Miralles.
Among the injured included Alberto Timtim, the driver of the vehicle; Marvin Ballerta; Nelson Barabas; Rene Boy Atong; Manuel Solina; Marjon Marino; and Elmer Moralla.
According to eyewitness accounts, around 4:10 a.m., the truck was traveling through the area when it fell over on the left side of the road, and descending into a creek approximately 12 feet in depth.
Timtim’s leg was crushed in the wreckage, while Alfonso and Miralles were later declared dead on arrival at a hospital.
Rescue workers managed to free the driver from the wreckage three hours after the incident.
In a radio interview with Timtim, he admitted to being inebriated at the time of the accident and fell asleep while driving.
He added, they were heading to the city’s Barangay Tabugon to deliver cooking oil and salt.
