Final MMDA report on Bacolod City traffic pending
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga

According to Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) head, Police Lt. Colonel Luisito Acebuche, traffic in the city is only a problem when classes are in session, during the MassKara Festival, and throughout the Christmas season.
He drew the opinion from a study conducted by the city traffic agency.
The BTAO official noted, they are currently waiting for the final report from the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) after a traffic assessment was conducted in the city last year.
Acebuche noted, they have already received preliminary findings, where the agency recommended prohibiting double parking, solving the issue of jaywalking, and removing roundabouts from the Shopping area and in Barangay Villamonte.
The BTAO official added, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia already has plans to fix traffic-related issues.
Last year, a 15-man team from the MMDA arrived in the city to study the current traffic situation in the city.
A 2017 study by the Boston Consulting Group found Metro Manila had the third-worst traffic situation in Southeast Asia behind Bangkok, Thailand and Jakarta, Indonesia. They also projected the city to reach “standstill levels,” or a situation where vehicles operate at less than 10 kilometers per hour, by 2022./DGB, WDJ
