Alaska beats the Dyip
By Adrian Stewart Co
The Alaska Aces leaned on a strong second half to score a 111-98 victory over the Columbian Dyip in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup last Sunday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Reinforcement Robert Daniels, Chris Banchero, and Simon Enciso came up huge for the Aces in the second half to turn things around and start the second conference on a winning note.
Trailing 56-48 early in the third, consecutive triples by Enciso managed to push Alaska to tie the score, 56-56, before relying on inside hits from Daniels to build an 82-67 edge.
Consecutive shots from Banchero at the start of the fourth allowed the Aces to build its largest lead at 91-71.
The Dyip threatened and got to within 93-81 but back-to-back treys from Jeron Teng and Carl Bryan Cruz increased Alaska’s lead to 101-85.
Daniels finished with a double-double on 25 points and 16 rebounds, Banchero scored 20, and Enciso added 19./ASC, WDJ
