The Philippine Information Agency recently posted a reminder for drivers on social media about current laws intended to keep roads safer.
The agency made note of RA 8750, the Seat Belts Use Act of 1999; RA 4136, the Land Transportation and Traffic Code; RA 10913, the Anti-Distracted Driving Act; and RA 10586, the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
The laws look to reduce the number of vehicular accidents and promote safer measures, which include both how motorists operate behind the wheel and how to behave on the roads.
Included among the policies are the requirement for drivers and passengers to always wear their seatbelt, prohibiting the use of various electronic devices while driving, and banning motorists from driving while under the influence of drugs or while intoxicated.
Meanwhile, the Land Transportation and Traffic Code, initially signed into law in 1964, offers an all-encompassing policy on driving including speed limits, guides on how to properly shift lanes, registration protocols, how to maneuver at an intersection, among other basic instructions./WDJ
