According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration-Iloilo Station (PAGASA-Iloilo) chief Engr. Ronaldo Naragdao, this year’s rainy season has not yet been declared.
“Once ma meet na ang criteria, amo na na pag-declare sang PAGASA sang rainy reason (Once the criteria is met, PAGASA will declare the onset of the rainy season),” she explained.
Naragdao noted, an area must experience five day of rain with an accumulation of at least 25 millimeters of rainfall before the rainy season can be declared.
He also made mention of El Niño, which AccuWeather describes as a climate pattern that raises sea temperatures in the Pacific Ocean and results in drought conditions due to reduced rainfall, and said such conditions may linger until August.
Last year, PAGASA announced the rainy season on June 8./WDJ
