One person was confirmed dead, while his live-in partner was left in critical condition, after a grenade explosion Friday night at Purok Paradise in Barangay Cabahug, Cadiz City.

Police identified the fatality as Boyet Celiz, while the injured was identified as 22-year-old Leslie Prudente.

Cadiz City police chief, Police Major Robert Mansueto, said, based on their investigation, Celiz and Prudente were engaged in a heated argument. During the confrontation, Celiz allegedly picked up a grenade, pulled the pin, and held on to it until it exploded.

Prudente was immediately rushed to the hospital after sustaining multiple injuries, while Celiz was declared dead on the spot.

Mansueto added, they also received information claiming Celiz had been threatening to kill himself if Prudente left him.

Police are now investigating how Celiz acquired the grenade./DGB, WDJ
