Following the recent arrest of a Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol employee after a buy-bust operation in Bacolod City earlier this month, the Negros Occidental provincial government announced plans to conduct random drug testing on their workers later this year.
Acting Negros Occidental Provincial Administrator, Dr. Lucille Gelvolea, said the drug testing will be a “surprise.”
Last year, around 600 out of over 2,000 total employees were subject to random drug testing, resulting in two testing positive.
With regard to Francisco Nuñal, the arrested employee of the Negros Occidental Provincial Accounting Office, Gelvolea said they are currently studying Civil Service Commission rules in order to determine the appropriate sanction./DGB, WDJ
