The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Occidental is around 80 percent ready for the May 13 elections.

Provincial election supervisor, Atty. Tictac Villanueva, said election paraphernalia has already begun arriving in the province, including 2,500 vote counting machines.

She also noted, schools expected to serve as polling places are ready.

Earlier, the Comelec office in Bacolod City also confirmed the arrival of voting machines, which are being heavily guarded by police.

Comelec-Bacolod elections supervisor, Atty. Ann Janette Lamban, refused to say where the machines are presently stored but affirmed they would be distributed to various polling stations across the city on May 9, with final testing and sealing to be conducted the following day./DGB, WDJ
