A teenager reportedly died after drowning in a river Saturday morning in Barangay Lopez Jaena, Murcia, Negros Occidental.

Police have refused to identify the victim, but confirmed they were 16 years old.

Based on investigations by the Murcia Municipal Police Station, the victim was swimming with friends and family at the Bago Twin River at the time of the incident.

The victim then reportedly jumped into deepest part of the river but failed to resurface.

Witnesses immediately scrambled to rescue the victim. They later recovered the remains an hour later.

The teen was immediately rushed to the Bacolod Adventist Medical Center for treatment but was declared dead on arrival by hospital staff./DGB, WDJ
