Toboso-born Merlito ‘Tiger’ Sabillo lost in a seventh round technical knockout over the weekend to Mexican boxer Daniel Valladares at the Arena Monterrey in Mexico. The Negrense boxer, whose recent loss marked his third-straight defeat, suffered a severe cut above his left eye, prompting the fight to be cut short.
Despite Sabillo putting up a solid performance in the first few rounds, the cut appeared following a solid punch from Valladares.
The loss leaves the Negrense with a 27-7-1 win-loss-draw record.
Last September, Sabillo lost to Chinese boxer Jing Xiang via unanimous decision following their World Boxing Council silver light flyweight title bout, which took place in Qinzhou, China. The Negrense boxer previously lost via split decision to Edward Heno in an Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation light flyweight title fight earlier that year./ASC, WDJ
