Three earthquakes were recorded last Tuesday with an early morning quake striking Antique and two afternoon tremors hitting both Negros provinces.
At 5:00 a.m., the first earthquake, a 2.3-magnitude tremor, was recorded north of Belison, Antique. According to a subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) bulletins, no damages were reported nor were there aftershocks expected.
However, while quakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli Intensity Scale, where the tremor goes almost undetected, Phivolcs reported a Level 2, where a few people feel the tremor, particularly those on the upper floors of buildings, was felt at the epicenter, along with San Jose de Buenavista and Patnongon, both also in Antique.
Meanwhile, that afternoon, a 2.3-magnitude earthquake struck south of Candoni in Negros Occidental at 2:05 p.m.; and a 2.0-magnitude tremor was recorded north of Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental at 2:54 p.m.
Subsequent Phivolcs bulletins also reported no damages nor were there aftershocks expected./WDJ
