Senior Citizens partylist Rep. Francisco Datul, Jr. recently released a press statement indicating his desire to see senior citizens act as “local history and culture specialists.”
He argued senior citizens “can still lead productive, active lives,” adding, “Semi-retirement as part-time local history and culture specialists is a viable livelihood option for many seniors who are still physically-able and whose minds are still sharp.”
Datul belies localities and institutions of higher education should record local history by interviewing senior citizens.
“Senior citizens lived through history,” he explained. “They are walking and living encyclopedias of local history.”
The party-list representative also believes the Department of Tourism and Department of Interior and Local Government should use senior citizens as resources./WDJ
