A police officer managed to escape with his life last Thursday after four members of the New People’s Army-Special Partisan Unit (NPA-SPARU) attempted to kill him in Manjuyod, Negros Oriental.
Police identified the victim as Police Master Sergeant Humprey Teves, a member of the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office.
Based on information provided by Manjuyod municipal police, Teves was at the Tabu-an Market and was boarding his motorcycle when he was approached by the four SPARU members, who subsequently attempted to open fire at him.
Teves, however, drew his firearm and fought back.
Two of his attackers were shot as a result, while the two others fled.
One of the SPARU members was killed on the spot; while the second suspect, whom police have not yet identified, was hit in the leg and managed to flee with the other two.
Police are now conducting an investigation into the identity of the killed SPARU member, along with follow-up operations against the three other suspects./DGB, WDJ
