Columbian Dyip sinks Rain or Shine

Columbian Dyip edged out the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 85-82, in the 2019 Honda PBA Philippine Cup last night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Rashawn McCarthy led the Dyip with 22 points, including five triples; while Jackson Corpuz added 12 markers and Jaymar Perez earned double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Holding a slim 42-40 lead at the half, the Dyip had a strong start in the third period on back-to-back triples by McCarthy for a 53-46 lead. Their lead grew further to its largest at 66-57 on inside hits by Jeepy Faundo and Glenn Khobuntin.

The Dyip were still up 71-63 early in the fourth period before the Painters countered with a run to tie the score at 73-all. The eventual winners were quick to reclaim the lead, picking up an 83-79 advantage on shots from Corpuz and John Paul Calvo.

The Painters came to within 83-82 on a triple by Gabriel Norwood. They had a chance to gain the lead but misfired their shots.

The Dyip pushed the lead to 85-82 on free throws by Reden Celda before seeing James Yap miss a game-tying three for the Painters./ASC, WDJ
