Blaming the president

During a recent gathering over coffee between so-called “yellow-tards” and “Duter-tards,” a “Duter-tard” golfer asked a “yellow-tard” planter, “Why are you so mad with ‘Tatay Digong,’ claiming he has not done anything for our country?” They continued, “Have you not seen anything he has done or are you just turning a blind eye on the leader’s performance?” The planter responded, “We just feel that killing too many Filipinos because of drugs is something inhumane; and fuel prices and the TRAIN (Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion) Law are worse.”

A “Duter-tard” police officer butted in, “You mean to say you want our kids to be victims of the sale of illegal drugs and crack their brains in the future?” They went on, “This was never resolved by past national administrations; leaders left it working and destroying our nation and it was ‘Tatay Digong’ who made a crackdown on this.” The golfer added, “My friends, who among the presidents of this country was able to stop rising fuel prices? – tell me now!” They continued, “Who was [the] past president who campaigned against illegal drugs? – tell me now!”

A “yellow-tard” banker said, “It is the president’s obligation to control the price of fuel and he should not [utter] words against priests and those against him; he should be fair.” The golfer responded: “Amigo, the president does not own the oil drills in the world, how can he control the prices? If you do not want him to say anything against the priests, then the priests should also not say something bad against the president. The heyday [for] priests is lost because the national leader does not want to be an ‘orphanage,’ where these priests [can] just ask politicos for material things.”

The golfer continued: “[Even] worse, many politicians are connected to the illegal drug trade because that is where the money is. Politicos do not even want their constituents to grow economically because they [will] not [be able to] buy votes anymore.”

According to a retired police officer: “Filipinos need to be treated roughly because we lack discipline. Look at the garbage and the traffic – even the politicians are not [disciplined] – if he wants to hit somebody, he must hit; that is how Singapore was disciplined and became a growing nation.”

“We have never grown,” they added.

A “yellow-tard” engineer spoke up: “In past administrations, national leaders were very formal in their speeches and gave respect to everyone; today, the leader just hits [whomever] he wants to hit. With all those formal speeches in their barong tagalog outfit, what have these presidents done for the nation? Have they uplifted the poverty level? Have they given appropriate discipline to obey the law of the land? No one cared, except [for] their personal interests and material gains.”
