Negros Occidental continues to pick up medals

Negrense student-athletes continued to pick up medals in athletics and swimming yesterday in the ongoing 2019 Visayas qualifying leg in Iloilo City.
In athletics, gold medals were won by Joycie Satia in the girls’ 1500-meter dash, Rhea Mae Cainoy in the girls’ 800-meter dash, Brineth Cupan – 200-meter dash, Marden Villaruel – boys’ 200-meter dash, Airex Villanueva – boys’ shotput, Renzo King Catulay – boys’ 800-meter dash.
Cainoy also captured silver in the girls’ 1500-meter dash,
In swimming, gold medals went to Jay-r Punzalan in the boys’ 13-15 100-meter backstroke; Alexi Cabayaran in the girls’ 13-15 100-meter backstroke; Troy Castro in the boys’ under-12 50-meter butterfly; and Earl Buncio in the boys’ 13-15 50-meter butterfly and 200-meter medley.
In addition, Negros Occidental also captured gold in the relay event with Cabayaran, Mareanne Apdo, Ela Ruelos, and Rianna Montelibano dominating the competition.
Meanwhile, silver medalists include Apdo in the 12-and-under 200-meter breaststroke, Renji De Miguel in the 15-and-under 400-meter freestyle, and Julianne Sevilla in the 15-and-under 400-meter freestyle).
Bronze medals were also won by Montelibano in the 12-and-under 50-meter butterfly and Samantha Secuelan in the 15-and-under 400-meter freestyle.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Negros Occidental is in fourth place in the medal count./ASC, WDJ
