Negros Occidental retains secondary girls’ volleyball title

The Negros Occidental secondary girls’ volleyball successfully defended their Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association meet title after defeating Iloilo in straight sets, 25-11, 25-18, 25-19, yesterday at the Colegio de la Purisima Concepción in Roxas City, Capiz.
“We are happy that we were able to defend our crown,” said Negrense player Joan Marie Monares. “That was our goal since we got here in Capiz.”
“It is blessing for us to again represent Western Visayas in Palarong Pambansa,” she added.
The Negrense squad, comprised of Bacolod Tay Tung High School students, quickly built double-digit leads in the first two sets behind Monares, Shane Carmona, and Alyssa Bertolano. Despite Iloilo surging to a 15-5 lead in the third period, Negros Occidental managed to fight back and secure the championship.
Also included on the Negros Occidental roster were Erika Deloria, Katherine Cortez, Nikha Cabasac, Beatrice Decena, Kiesha Bedonia, Aurea Alvero, Melody Pons, and Myrtle Escanlar.
Meanwhile, Negrenses also triumphed in the secondary boys’ volleyball competition, also defeating Iloilo in their match./ASC, WDJ
