DLSU beats AdMU in UAAP women’s volleyball opener

De La Salle University (DLSU) defeated Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) 25-14, 25-17, 16-25, 25-19 in their opening match of the 81st UAAP women’s volleyball season over the weekend at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Desiree Cheng led the way for DLSU with 13 points, 14 receptions, and nine digs; while Jolina Dela Cruz and May Luna added 11 markers each.
DLSU opened with a 16-10 lead on back-to-back hits by Aduke Ogunsaya. In addition, errors from AdMU allowed the gap to further widen. By the second set, both teams were into tight exchange early with AdMU up 8-6, but DLSU gained an edge into the second technical timeout, leading 16-15. DLSU then unloaded a 7-2 run capped by a hit from Luna for a 2-0 set edge.
After losing the third set, the DLSU recovered in the fourth with an 8-4 lead behind Luna and Ogunsaya. AdMU rallied to within 19-15 but DLSU came up with shots from Norielle Ipac and Cheng to preserve the win./ASC, WDJ
