Love Negros to make endorsements in Senate race
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
After the United Negros Alliance announced they would endorse eight senatorial candidates in the midterm elections, despite forming a “unity ticket” for the upcoming polls, Love Negros revealed they would be issuing a separate list of endorsements.
In a recent radio interview, gubernatorial candidate, incumbent Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, said the candidates they endorse must be “ready to help,” particularly with regard to the sugar industry.
He said the announcement will be made “in due time.”
Earlier this week, Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., announced he would reveal the eight senatorial candidates he will be endorsing in the upcoming midterm elections. He noted, by picking eight out of 12 possible slots, “the public can decide on the remaining four.”
The governor earlier named five candidates he was supporting, including incumbent Senators Cynthia Villar, Sonny Angara, and Grace Poe; former Senator Mar Roxas; and former Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go.
However, he refused to offer any indication if the remaining three slots would be decided based on geography.
There are currently three candidates from Negros Occidental running for the Senate, including incumbent Magdalo partylist Rep. Gary Alejano, former Department of the Interior and Local Government Rafael Alunan, and former Bayan Muna partylist Rep. Neri Colmenares.
The campaign period for senators and party-list representatives begins next week./DGB, WDJ
