Ellan Asuela of Bacolod City was named overall champion last weekend at the Hala Bira Iloilo Open Chess Tourney at the GT Town Center in Pavia, Iloilo.

The winner beat out 100 other players and earned P4,000.

Carlito Lavega of Iloilo City came in second place, while Horizon Villanueva of Zarraga took third.

Meanwhile, with regard to special awards, Nemesio Orlina III of Iloilo City was named “Top Senior,” Nielstin Gallenero from San Miguel won “Top Elementary Student,” and Jovelyn Sepanton from Lemery took “Top Female.”/ASC, WDJ
