Acting Bacolod City Mayor El Cid Familiaran said he will ask Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who is currently out of the country, to order the City Legal Enforcement Unit to further strengthen their campaign against illegal dumping.
According to Familiaran, there would be no progress in the implementation of RA 9003, or the Solid Waste Management Act, if there is no discipline and penalties assessed against individuals who violate the said law.
The acting mayor pointed out, the problem is due to a lack of cooperation from “violators” who refuse to throw out their garbage based on the collection schedule set by city waste management contractor IPM-Construction and Development Corporation.
The city official added, he wants the strategy implemented across all barangays in the city.
Earlier, the city government unveiled their new strategy for garbage collection at markets.
Familiaran said they agreed on barring market vendors from disposing waste at so-called “mini-dumpsters” and requiring them to only bring out their garbage when an IPM-CDC truck passes./DGB, WDJ
