A woman was declared dead on the spot following an apparent hit-and-run yesterday morning along Araneta Street in Barangay Pahanocoy, Bacolod City.
Police identified the victim as Elizabeth Dizon, a pharmacist and resident of the said city.
Based on initial investigations by Police Station 8 (PS8), the victim was in the crosswalk in front of Bacolod South General Hospital when she was struck by a red Toyota Innova.
Witnesses claimed the driver was running between 80 and 100 kilometers per hour when the incident occurred.
The force of the impact threw the victim around 50 meters from the crosswalk.
Following the incident, the driver sped off.
Three hours later, the 25-year-old suspect, whom they did not identify, surrendered to the station along with the vehicle.
The vehicle’s front and the windshield were damaged due to the impact.
PS8 is presently waiting for the victim’s family to decide if they will press charges./DGB, WDJ
