According to a Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) report, four Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) inmates have tested positive for measles.

CHO Environment and Sanitation Division head, Dr. Grace Tan, disclosed five of the 25 earlier-diagnosed male inmates of the Barangay Handumanan facility were swabbed and sampled.

“Four of them [tested] positive of measles, but they are already fine,” she added.

The CHO official said they will continue monitoring the situation.

Earlier, the facility recorded 25 measles cases and 13 cases of conjunctivitis, or “sore eyes,” among male inmates.

MBDJ-Handumanan jail warden, Jail Senior Inspector Norberto Miciano, said the 25 sick inmates were quarantined, while the 13 received medical attention.

CHO responded by immediately vaccinating all 441 male inmates in order to prevent the spread of infection inside the facility./DGB, WDJ
