The Iloilo City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) recently collaborated with the University of the Philippines-Visayas (UP Visayas) on disaster risk reduction efforts during the school’s National Service Training Program.
“We are hoping that, with the experience, it will tighten our design on how to introduce the DRRM program to students, how to start the implementation, [and] how to monitor once it will be ready for setting up,” explained CDRRMO head Donna Magno. “We can tell them that we can collaborate with this kind of work and, at the end of the engagement, we can be sure that the youth-based extension project will be infused on this kind of thinking in disaster risk reduction.”
Aside from disaster risk reduction, other subjects discussed included risk profile, climate, and resiliency.
The CDRRMO official noted, there was particular attention paid to coastal barangays, adding, through the lessons, students will be able to “come up with their proposed plans on how to help the barangays.”/WDJ
