The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) quarantined several Metro Bacolod District Jail (MBDJ) inmates, who reportedly came down with illnesses.
MBDJ-Handumanan warden, Jail Senior Inspector Norberto Miciano, said the facility recorded 25 measles cases and 13 sore eyes cases.
He explained, those with measles have been isolated from the general population, while the other 13 are continuously receiving medication.
“We need to preempt it because the inmates are vulnerable as they are all housed in one building,” Miciano said.
He said some inmates were exhibiting rashes and had fevers, which he said was “not normal.” After first assuming it may have been dengue, a jail nurse confirmed it was measles, which prompted the jail to coordinate with the City Health Office (CHO).
The number of visitors to the facility is limited, along with restricting entry to those below the age of 12.
In addition, all religious and learning activities have been put on hold.
Meanwhile, CHO conducted an immunization for inmates yesterday./DGB, WDJ
