Following the three earthquakes that caused damaged across Panay last week, the Western Visayas was struck by a pair of tremors over the weekend with a 2.5-magnitude quake striking just west of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras on Saturday night and a 2.3-magnitude tremor recorded east of Leon, Iloilo early Sunday afternoon.
According to subsequent Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletins, neither incident caused any reported damage, nor were there any anticipated aftershocks.
Earthquakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli intensity scale, where very few even feel the tremor.
Sibunag, Guimaras was the epicenter of one of the three stronger quakes to earlier strike the region with a 4.0-magnitude tremor recorded last week. Meanwhile, seismic activity measuring 2.2 in magnitude was recorded in Leon last Wednesday./WDJ
