An early morning earthquake struck just east of Leon, Iloilo yesterday.

Measuring 2.2 in magnitude, the tremor struck around 12:33 a.m., with a Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology bulletin indicating no damage was recorded due to the incident, nor were there any anticipated aftershocks.

Earthquakes ranging between 1.0 and 3.0 in magnitude are often classified as a Level 1 on the Mercalli intensity scale, where very few even feel the tremor.

Last Monday, three earthquakes struck the Western Visayas, with a 4.7-magnitude quake striking San Jose de Buenavista, Antique, along with a subsequent 4.0-magnitude tremor near Sibunag, Guimaras and a 4.8-magnitude earthquake northwest of Guimbal, Iloilo.

The earlier tremors were felt as far away as Bacolod City and Cebu City./WDJ
