Five suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members, one of whom was said to be a leader, were arrested late Thursday evening in Barangay 9, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental.
Police identified the arrested individuals as Mary Grace Delicano a resident of Barangay Sum-ag in Bacolod City; alongside Richard Serapin, Arnold Villegas, Wildie Adal, and Eric James Rufino of Cebu.
Based on information provided by Kabankalan City Police Station deputy chief, Police Chief Inspector John Ganzon, their station and a Philippine Army 62nd Infantry Battalion platoon, led by 1st Lieutenant Dexter Seragon, were conducting a routine checkpoint when they flagged down the suspects’ sport utility vehicle.
Police immediately arrested Delicano as she had an outstanding arrest warrant on murder charges, earlier issued by Kabankalan City Regional Trial Court-Branch 61.
The four others were also arrested as they were suspected of being “recruits.”
Delicano reportedly leads the Regional Education Department of the Kommittee Rehiyon Negros and is said to serve as secretary for the NPA Central Negros Front.
Police recovered a laptop, two flash drives, an external hard drive, medical supplies, and subversive documents from the suspects.
The five are presently detained at the Kabankalan City Police Station./DGB, WDJ
