Iloilo City was named among the top 100 “Super Cities” on the Tholons Services Globalization Index 2018, which is produced by London-based strategic advisory firm Tholons. The city fell off the list last year but returned this year in 92nd place.
“Previously, the only indicator was how technology is used for government services,” explained Local Economic and Investment Promotions Office head Ritchel Gavan. “This year, it included the support to local start-up community.”
“The city government is in the initial stage of coming up with automated issuance of business, occupancy, and building permits,” she added.
According to the report, “The index evaluates ranks and provides location strategies to multinational corporations, countries, governments, multilateral agencies, analysts and investors.”
Data from the index is often utilized by multinational corporations operating in the business process outsourcing industry.
Meanwhile, Bacolod City ranked 89th.
In addition, among the top 50 “Digital Nations,” the Philippine ranked second behind India./WDJ
