Incumbent Bacolod City lone district Rep. Greg Gasataya recently received endorsements for reelection from two of his fellow legislators.
Negros Occidental first district Rep. Melecio Yap and Tarlac first district Rep. Carlos O. Cojuangco, who previously served three terms as congressman for the Negros Occidental fourth congressional district, both endorsed Gasataya.
Cojuangco called the incumbent representative “promising” and “effective.”
Recent reports suggest Gasataya may face a challenge from former Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella, who previously served as Bacolod City lone district representative from 2001 to 2010.
“Are the people of Bacolod not yet annoyed of Monico?” the Tarlac lawmaker asked.
Yap, who was elected in 2016, recently announced he would not be seeking reelection in 2019, saying he wanted to “rest.”
The congressman said he was asked to vacate his post for San Carlos City Mayor Gerardo Valmayor, who is on his third and final term./DGB, WDJ
