The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) recently announced the formation of a special investigation task group (SITG) to resolve the murder of Atty. Rafael Atutubo, who was gunned down last week in front of his home in Barangay 20.
SITG Atutubo is composed of units from Police Regional Office-6, the City Intelligence Unit, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Bacolod, Investigation and Detection Management Unit, Negros Occidental Provincial Highway Patrol Group, BCPO-Public Information Office, and Police Station 4.
The unit heads, along with BCPO director, Police Senior Superintendent Francisco Ebreo, convened last Friday and reviewed the evidence gathered, which includes closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from a nearby establishment.
Police are presently gathering more CCTV footage from other establishments in order to identify the suspects’ escape route.
BCPO is also conducting a background check on Atutubo’s clients.
Last Thursday, Atutubo was gunned down while having breakfast in front of his house at Galo-Hilado Streets in Barangay 20, Bacolod City.
Atutubo was declared dead on arrival after he was struck in the left eye.
Police have yet to issue any comment on a possible motive into his murder; however, former Don Salvador Benedicto Mayor Jose Max Ortiz, a close friend of the victim, confirmed Atutubo was handling several drug-related cases and even asked him to acquire a bodyguard.
He added, Atutubo was also active against corruption within the judiciary and the police force./DGB, WDJ
