Puentevella: Our struggle paid off

Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas (SWP) President Monico Puentevella lauded Olympic silver medal-winning weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz after she recently captured gold in the 2018 Asian Games, the first gold medal for the Philippines in this year’s games, which are currently taking place in Indonesia.

“Our struggle paid off in the end,” he said. “It’s all worth it.”

He said Diaz’ success will only help the sport progress in the country.

“People will really start to believe in our Olympic sport,” the SWP chief stated.

Diaz won gold in the women’s 53 kg event.

Meanwhile, the weightlifter is also expected to earn P6 million from her medal-winning performance./JSG, WDJ
