The Negros Occidental Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) First District Engineering Office is currently building a flood control structure worth P83.871 million along the Imbang River in Silay City.

“We are closely fast-tracking the construction of this flood control structure, which is targeted for completion in October this year, given favorable weather condition,” affirmed District Engineer Jaime SJ Javellana. “This structure [will] benefit at least four barangays in Silay City that are located near both banks of the river.”

According to Barangay Rizal Secretary Rosana Castro, flooding and erosion are common problems for residents of the affected area.

Meanwhile, Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia recently called a meeting of city officials, department heads, and DPWH officials to assess the city’s drainage systems./WDJ
