President Rodrigo Duterte recently declared Iloilo City’s Charter Day, August 25, a special non-working holiday in the city.

“This means a lot for us,” said Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III, who also offered his appreciation for the president’s directive.

The city’s month-long Charter Day observance kicked off earlier this week.

2018 marks the city’s 81st Charter Day celebration.

During opening ceremonies, the mayor said, “This celebration reminds us, after so many years since our cityhood, Iloilo City continues to grow and achieve so much.”

Special non-working holidays come with adjusted pay schedules.

Those working are entitled to 30 percent of their regular pay for the first eight hours, along with an additional 30 percent for work in excess of the ascribed time period./WDJ
