Last Wednesday, the newly-constructed P150-million Simplicio Palanca Sea Terminal opened, which can accommodate a total of 3,000 passengers and is managed by a group of Filipino-Chinese investors.

Currently, shipping company 2GO Travel, which services Manila-bound passengers, is the sole carrier operating out of the new facility.

Passengers bound for Iloilo, meanwhile, are expected to move to the new terminal by October.

In a report by TV Patrol Negros, Bredco port manager Romelo Casela said the investors are looking to improve the port’s facilities, such as adding more warehouses, security fences, and other port-related infrastructure.

Casela said the group is also considering an additional P200 million investment in order to implement the proposed improvements.

The current terminal fee stands at P30, but it is expected to increase once new improvements are introduced./DGB, WDJ
