The National Nutrition Council recently announced P54 million will be allocated to fund a feeding program for pregnant women in the Western Visayas. The program will reportedly provide food for nearly 9,000 women throughout the region.

According to the government agency, the Western Visayas is second to Mimaropa in terms of nutritionally-at-risk pregnant women.

Beneficiaries will receive hot meals on weekdays, along with various rations beginning the 24th week of their pregnancy, or the first trimester.

They will also be provided daily allowance for food purchases, along with money for cooking equipment.

In addition, Cadiz City, La Carlota City, San Carlos City, Hinoba-an, and Binalbagan will be conducting a three-month feeding program as part of the Early Childhood Care and Development in the First 1000 Days initiative./WDJ
