Iloilo City classes, sea travel suspended

Amid the ongoing southwest monsoon, or habagat, impacting Iloilo City, as of 3:00 p.m. yesterday, sea travel and classes were suspended.

Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III said schools across the city were experiencing flooding, which compelled City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Donna Magno to recommend suspending classes.

Meanwhile, the local Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) station suspended travel between Iloilo and Guimaras, citing “unpredictable occurrence of squall.”

The local PCG also discouraged fishermen from venturing out to sea.

PCG-Iloilo station commander Rodolfo Dela Peña reported a motorboat capsized while en route from Nauway Island to Sibunag, Guimaras on Monday due to a sudden storm.
