“…Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall…” –Jesus, our God and Savior (Matthew 7:24-25)
In the face of continuous bloodcurdling reactions, please allow me to reiterate, I am thankful for the criticisms expressed by President Rodrigo Duterte against the Catholic Church, including his daring assertion about “stupid God” and questioning the existence of a “God of the Catholic Church.” I will concede the nonstop criticism of the president has become painful to hear but Catholics should use these attacks as an opportunity to explain, to both Duterte and the world, what the Catholic faith is about and the truth about the being they call “God.”
Other Christian denominations should also take advantage of the moment and use it an as an instrument to guide members towards an honest-to-goodness study of doctrine and teachings (the Bible included) in order for them to understand what they believe.
Christians are not aware of Christ’s commands?
While many considering themselves Christian, they are also ignorant of His teachings and commands. How did they become followers of Christ without knowing what he wants of them?
Many join a church because their parents or family were already being a part of it and it is there where they are baptized, married, and likely (at a later time) die. Unfortunately, it cannot be denied, these people do not know one bit about the doctrines that govern the church.
It’s the religion they were born into, so it becomes their religion.
Some “believers” gain nothing from their faith
For those “believers” who have not studied the doctrines and commands, it is a waste – they gain nothing from their religious affiliations. Without understanding the foundations of their faith, they fail to realize the truth of what the Bible contains, which provides the know-how to attain amazing powers.
They must understand, if they were true followers of Jesus, the Christ, they would have success, prosperity, health, and wealth. Being clothed in the love and power of God, they will have the power to experience the miracles performed by Jesus.
In the past, this was never taught to believers. Religious leaders did not want anything to do with the power gained from faith and this is where the Duterte criticisms prove to be beneficial. Everyone now has the chance to discuss who God is and the gifts he presents. These gifts of power are given to those who accept, receive, believe, and have faith in Him.
