A suspected carnapper was recently arrested at a checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion, Sagay City.

Police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Mariel Macaron, a carwash worker and resident of Barangay Minapasok, Calatrava.

Based on information provided by Sagay City police, Macaron allegedly stole a Toyota Vios in La Carlota City, where he previously worked.

The owner of the vehicle informed the La Carlota police of the incident and an alert was issued across the province.

Eventually, Macaron was nabbed when he encountered a checkpoint in Sagay City.

Investigators said Macaron was planning to transport the vehicle to Cebu, although it would be impossible for him to board a Cebu-bound ship since the Coast Guard station in Sagay City also received the said alert and were closely checking every vehicle that passed through the port.

Macaron is detained at the Sagay City Police Station and faces carnapping charges./DGB, WDJ
