The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) recently opened 25 Wi-Fi connectivity sites across Iloilo City as part of the Free Internet Access in Public Places Project, often referred to as “Pipol Konek.”
“I am optimistic that these connections will not only give opportunities, but will also be sources of hope for the people,” said DICT Acting Secretary Eliseo M. Rio, Jr.
Among the locations offering free Wi-Fi include Jalandoni Memorial National High School, R.G. Hechanova National High School, Ramon Avanceña National High School, Iloilo Science and Technology University, Mandurriao National High School, Iloilo National High School, Iloilo City National High School, Jaro National High School, Special Education-Integrated School for Exceptional Children, La Paz National High School, TCT-AR Foundation Integrated School, Fort San Pedro National High School, Melchor L. Nava National High School, Bo. Obrero National High School, Santo Rosario Health Center, Barrio Obrero Health Center, Iloilo City Proper Health Center, Jaro II District Health Center, La Paz District Health Center, Arevalo Health Center, Iloilo City Public Library, Iloilo City Pier, and Plaza Libertad A and B.
Last year, the Bacolod City Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution requesting the DICT to provide free Wi-Fi at government establishments throughout the city, including libraries.
The measure, authored by City Councilor Caesar Distrito, promised free Wi-Fi at the Bacolod Government Center, old City Hall, City Health Office, Bacolod Public Plaza, the BAYS Center, and the city’s public markets./WDJ
