The Department of Agriculture-Region VI Climate and Environmental Risk Reduction Management Unit (CERRMU) held a training between June 13 and 15 in Iloilo City on upgrading automated weather stations (AWS).
“We [are] targeting more accurate and systematic data gathering and observation with this improved design of AWS,” said Engr. Jimmy Eledia of CERRMU. “Since there are updates on the parts and sensors of the AWS, weather observers [were] trained on troubleshooting protocols, operation, and maintenance.”
According to the Department of Science and Technology, an AWS is a “monitoring station equipped with different sensors capable of measuring weather parameters.” Data gathered by the device is then transmitted via text message.
There are total 13 AWSs installed throughout the Western Visayas./WDJ
