Amid reports Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., alongside 2016 vice gubernatorial candidate and former Negros Occidental fifth district Rep. Jeffrey Ferrer, would represent the United Negros Alliance (UNegA) in upcoming unity talks with rival political coalition Love Negros, the governor responded, “What talks?”
“We will inform you if there is a talk already,” he affirmed. “I don’t even know who to talk to.”
With regard to the potential for talks, Marañon added, “What will we talk about?”
The governor went on to deflect further political discussion.
“Let us talk about the problems of the Philippines, the world, and the economy.” he urged. “Let us not talk about politics.”
Earlier, talks of unification between the two rival parties began to gain ground with UNegA secretary-general, Provincial Board Member Salvador Escalante, Jr., suggesting a Lacson-Ferrer tandem, with Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez running for Senate.
Lacson and Benitez are with Love Negros while Ferrer is with UNegA.
In a statement earlier this month, Escalante said, “Everybody is calling for a unified Negros camp for 2019.”/DGB, WDJ
