Negros Occidental Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Director Carmelo Orbista yesterday confirmed the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) provincial federation elections are scheduled to take place next week, on June 5 and 6, at the L’Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City.

Orbista said the last local government level elections were in Talisay City yesterday.

He explained, the SK is “guided by RA 10742, or the SK Reform Act,” which includes among its prohibited acts “campaigning and the housing of officials for purposes of forums.”

As for the barangay provincial federation, he said “there are no guidelines and schedules from the central office of the DILG.”

Orbista reminded local politicians the SK and the barangay are “non-political and non-partisan.”

Board Member Annabelle Bermudo of La Carlota City currently represents barangays on the Negros Occidental Provincial Board./DGB, WDJ
