The installation of six new floodlights at the Panaad Park and Stadium has begun.
According to stadium in-charge, Engr. Victor Mosende, a total of 36 bulbs will be installed, which cost P46 million.
“This illumination will meet the illumination standard required for the upcoming Asian Football Confederation Cup ASEAN Zonal Finals in August,” he said.
Meanwhile, Negros Occidental Provincial Sports Coordinator Angel Verdeflor called for repairs to the stadium track.
“It’s high time to restore the track oval,” he said.
“Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. has already ordered the submission of the project proposal,” the provincial official added. “We expect a budget increase.”
In addition, Verdeflor said seating capacity needs to be increased, recommending an expansion of the stadium’s east bleachers.
“With the installation of bolted chairs, seat numbers have decreased to almost half the original count,” he explained. “This will take some time because, even if the proposal is approved, we still have to look for the funds.”
The stadium can currently accommodate around 8,000 spectators./JSG, WDJ
