According to Bacolod City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) records, the cost of fire damages this year, based on data recorded between January and May 17, is P1.4 million.

The costs come after the bureau recorded a total of 192 blazes in the said period.

Most incidents originated from sugarcane or grass fires, totaling 134. In response, the BFP discouraged the burning of sugarcane fields and requested smokers to not toss cigarettes into fields.

BFP also called on local residents to avoid overloading extension cords.

According to their data, a total of 25 residential fires were recorded./WDJ
