Mayors from the Negros Occidental third congressional district reiterated their call for Negros Occidental third district Rep. Alfredo Benitez to run for governor in the upcoming 2019 midterm elections.

In a recent interview with EB Magalona Mayor Marvin Malacon, he said they are pushing Benitez for governor, but said they would support whatever decision he ultimately makes.

Also included in the district are Victorias City, Talisay City, Silay City, and Murcia.

Earlier, former Negros Occidental provincial board member Patrick Lacson started a signature campaign urging Benitez to run for governor, which was followed by an endorsement from Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña.

Meanwhile, Malacon also announced he would seek re-election, despite earlier saying he would not run against his friend, Provincial Board Member David Lacson, who previously served as mayor.

“I will seek re-election in the 2019 elections, come what may,” Malacon affirmed.

With regard to 2019, Lacson said nothing is certain yet considering the current push for federalism./DGB, WDJ
