Aklan District Engineer Noel Fuentebella recently revealed P490 million in an augmentation fund is set to be released for the purpose of subsidizing road projects on shuttered resort destination Boracay.

The request reportedly came from Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar in order to expedite the projects.

Last week, during a visit to Boracay, Villar laid out several plans to improve the island.

“We aim to complete the whole Boracay Circumferential Road, which will strictly follow the 6.10-meter carriageway standard and road right-of-way on both sides,” the cabinet official stated. “We also plan to build sidewalks and bike lanes for pedestrians.”

He added, the roadway will also include an improved drainage and sewerage system./WDJ
